2013 Hall of Fame Ceremony

Signature Healthcare of Fentress County (Jamestown, TN) recently honored several ‘hometown heroes’ by inducting them into the facility’s Hall of Fame Café.

Signature Healthcare of Fentress County is one of 72 nursing communities operated by Louisville, Kentucky-based Signature HealthCARE. The Hall of Fame Café concept was developed and launched companywide as a means of acknowledging the remarkable things residents and staff have accomplished in their lives.

Signature Healthcare of Fentress County’s recent honorees are:

Ms. Barbara Compton (stakeholder) was born to Elbert and Lena Cooper on December 2, 1946 in Pickett County. She married Roger Compton May 20, 1967 at age 20. They were the proud parents of two children, Kyle and Celena. Barbara started working at Fentress on September 2, 1987 thru August 29, 2010 in the Dietary Department. Barbara has seen many changes during her years at Fentress. She watched the facility grow from a 38 bed facility to a 140 bed facility. Barbara was a valued employee and friend of Fentress for her dependability and strong work ethic. Barbara is also a valued customer of Fentress. Barbara’s Father, Mother, Aunt and Sister were and are Residents of Fentress over several years. She says that she had the opportunity to work with a lot of great people and
made many good friends, some of whom have passed on and are greatly missed. She says she loved the residents and her job. Barbara enjoys her time with her family and is a proud Grandmother of seven grandchildren, Kyler, Justin, Johanna, Hadassah, Cameron, Zachery and Coen. Barbara was a faithful employee willing to do whatever was asked of her. She is greatly missed by all at Fentress since her retirement.

Alice (Cole) Potter (resident) was born November 2, 1938 in Oneco, Connecticut to Mowry Benjamin Cole and Anna Belle Maulburn. She was the middle child of 7 brothers and 1 sister. She went to school until the 10th grade, dropping out so she could square dance full time. After leaving high school, she worked at several convalescent homes where she received on-the-job training to be a CNA. She married Louie Pepin, Jr. in 1957 and had 4 children: Louie III, Raymond, Eugene, and Maureen. She worked 3rd shift for many years at Norristown Convalescent Home until she divorced her 1st husband in 1981. She moved to Rhode Island and went to work for Rhode Island Mental Health and Retardation Hospitals (MHRH) in Warwick, RI. One weekend, while square dancing, she met her 2nd husband, Norman Potter. They eloped in West Virginia in late 1981. In 1991, the hospital worked with Alice so she could get her GED and become a licensed CNA in Rhode Island. She continued to work for MHRH for many years until retiring in April 2008. Norman had passed away in 2005, so she moved with her son Eugene to Tennessee in 2008. Although she had retired, she worked part time jobs at Standing Stone in Monterrey, a chicken company, and even Jamestown Regional Hospital where she officially retired in 2009. Later that year, Alice had a stroke and was life-flighted to UT Hospital in Knoxville. After she was released from the hospital she was transferred to Signature Healthcare of Fentress County. Alice has come to SHC Fentress County several times since 2009 and currently lives here now. She has taken care of many people in Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Tennessee, and continues to impact the lives of others she comes in contact with.

The awards ceremony was followed by a reception, with food prepared by Signature Healthcare of Fentress County’s dietary staff. It is always a pleasure to highlight the amazing accomplishments of our residents, stakeholders, and community members. Thank you again for allowing us the opportunity to honor you all.

Signature Healthcare of Fentress County would like to extend a special “Thank You” to the following individuals for helping make our recent Hall of Fame event so great; Richard Gooding and Gyla Young for their performances and Crystal Bilbrey for photography. We appreciate you all so much.
